Effectiveness and results

The available studies on shingle rejuvenation treatments show measurable lab results: a return of flexibility under ASTM D3462 on 17-year-old shingles, and a significant reduction in granule loss. Two honest caveats: those studies are funded by the product manufacturers, and there is still no independent 10-year field follow-up. What we can say without reservation is that a surface that repels water fouls less, holds less moss, and takes less internal freeze-thaw damage.

The Équipe Nano network advertises an extension of 5 to 15 years depending on the covering's starting condition. That is a manufacturer claim, not independent data, we would rather say so. What is verifiable is the state of your roof today, and that is exactly what the free inspection documents.

No. This matters and it is categorical. A leak is a mechanical problem, lifted flashing, a punctured valley, a backed-out nail, damaged decking. It must be repaired before any treatment. If we find a leak during the inspection, we flag it and point you toward the repair.

That depends on its condition, not just its age. A well-ventilated 22-year-old roof in partial shade can be an excellent candidate. A 15-year-old south-facing roof with brittle shingles and lost granules may not be. The inspection settles it.

Yes. Penetrating treatments degrade over time, lab data on silane sealers documents this clearly on concrete. Periodic reapplication is part of normal maintenance, like repainting siding.

A traditional sealer forms a film over the surface. Nanotechnology products are designed to penetrate the material's pores and make it hydrophobic from within.

The most important distinction sits right there: the official data sheets for NANO-T, NANO-Revive and NANO-BT state explicitly that the product "does not impair surface breathability". That is precisely the objection the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association raises against film-forming coatings applied to installed shingles, the risk of creating a vapour barrier that rots the deck. A breathable penetrating product does not work the same way. Ask us for the data sheets and we will hand them over.

Cleaning removes what is already there: moss, lichen, algae staining. It changes nothing about the material's ability to repel water next season. Cleaning is in fact part of our preparation, it is a step, not the service.

The treatment is designed to be transparent and not alter the covering's tone. That said, a roof freshly cleaned of moss and algae staining looks noticeably cleaner, which people often read as a colour change.

Warranty and legal

This is the most important question, and the honest answer is nuanced. Several manufacturers explicitly exclude products applied after installation: BP excludes "any exposure to paint, inadequate cleaning solutions, coatings, chemicals", and IKO excludes "the effects of chemical reactions with the shingles or chemicals applied to the shingles". The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association formally advises against applying coatings over installed shingles. In Quebec, the legal warranty under the Consumer Protection Act continues to apply independently of any contractual warranty. Some competitors conclude from this that a manufacturer can void nothing: we will not go that far, absent any known ruling confirming that reading. What we do: explain the situation before we start, and let you decide.

You receive a written warranty certificate when the work is done. The exact terms, duration, coverage, transferability to a future buyer, are given to you in writing before you sign, not after. Ask for them; we have nothing to hide.

To our knowledge, no Quebec insurer has published a position excluding surface treatments. The real issue is elsewhere and it is well documented: Intact now caps standard coverage on asphalt shingle at 20 years, and beyond that applies an exclusion endorsement with a $5,000 deductible for water intrusion. A poorly maintained roof can also lead to a refusal for negligence. If in doubt, call your broker, it takes five minutes.

The inspection report and treatment certificate are documents you can hand to the buyer and their pre-purchase inspector. For transferability of the warranty itself, refer to the written terms you were given.

Safety and environment

The products are applied on the roof, outdoors, and dry within tens of minutes. The standard instruction is to keep animals indoors or away during application and until fully dry. We give you the precise procedure before starting.

We tarp sensitive adjacent areas before spraying. Point out your garden, beds or delicate plants at the inspection and we factor them into the plan.

Wait for a few full rainfalls before collecting roof water again, and do not use it for human or animal consumption. That is the general recommendation for any roof water, treated or not.

No, you stay home. That is one of the concrete advantages over a replacement: no tear-off noise, no dust in the attic, no tarps over the windows.

Let's be precise. The most solid and measurable environmental benefit is that an avoided replacement means several tonnes of shingle that do not go to landfill. On nanomaterials themselves, Quebec's INSPQ acknowledges remaining uncertainty about long-term effects, and Écohabitation recommends caution. We are not going to pretend the debate is closed.

The product is designed to penetrate and bond with the material rather than sit on the surface, which limits leaching once dry. The manufacturer's technical data sheets are available on request, ask for them, that is your right.

Application and logistics

The manufacturer's data sheets set a range of +5 °C to +30 °C for NANO-T, NANO-Revive and NANO-BT, and up to +35 °C for NANO-B on wood. Our own job-site conditions are stricter still: temperature above 4 °C for a minimum of 4 hours, a clean dry surface, and no precipitation in the forecast. Full cure takes 24 hours.

In Saguenay, with only 95 to 110 frost-free days a year, that gives a realistic season of May through October, with windows closing quickly in late fall. That is why it pays to book your inspection early.

Most single-family homes are finished in a day, preparation included. A very large, very steep or hard-to-access roof may need an extra day.

Yes, and it is included. We remove moss, lichen and debris with gentle low-pressure cleaning. Never a pressure washer: on asphalt shingle it strips granules and accelerates the end of the covering's life.

We plan around the weather. The product needs time to penetrate before precipitation. If the forecast turns, we postpone, better for you and for us.

The treatment does not turn your roof into an ice rink and does not change the granule texture. It is not designed as a snow-shedding product and does not replace a heating cable or an ice-and-water membrane if your roof needs one.

Pricing and terms

We do not publish a fixed price, because a number posted without having seen your roof would be a guess. Price depends on surface area, pitch, access, the condition of the covering and any repairs needed first. The calculator on this site gives you an order of magnitude based on published market ranges; the free inspection gives you the real number, in writing.

Yes. The network works with external financing partners such as Financeit and Desjardins, allowing instalments over 1 to 5 years. Depending on the case, an internal payment arrangement over a few instalments can also be discussed. Raise it with your advisor at quoting time, we lay out the options plainly.

No, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. Quebec and federal programs (Rénoclimat, LogisVert) target insulation and energy efficiency, not roof covering, let alone a surface treatment. No known grant applies.
